Spring 2026

Sunday, January 11, 2026
Residence Halls re-open for the Spring 2026 semester for returning students who lived on campus for the Fall 2025 semester. Electronic access will be activated at 9 a.m. 

Move-in for New Spring 2026 students will be from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
All new students will report to the Residence Life Office (1st floor of Cantrell Hall) to check in.

Monday, February 23, 2026
Requests to stay over Spring Break must be completed and submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026.
*There is a $25.00 fee per night-for approved students, to stay over Spring Break, charges will be applied to the student account in the Cashier’s Office. Official College breaks where Residence Halls close are not included in Spring 2026 Housing fees.

Notification to Residents/Results for Request to Stay Over Break
Notification to residents who submitted a request to stay over Spring Break will be notified. If approved for stay, the $25.00 per night fee will be placed on the student’s account at this time.

Spring Break
Residence Halls Closed
All residents are required to vacate their housing assignment. Building access is turned off at this time. Only those who are approved to stay on campus are allowed in Residence Halls.
Smith Dining Commons closed for the duration of the break.

Monday, March 17, 2026 
Housing Application opens for current/returning UVA Wise Students

  • There is no fee to apply for housing.
  • Housing assignments are made on the order of housing application date/time. The earlier students register, the better room selection they will have.
  • Returning students can select housing in Asbury, Culbertson, Henson, Martha Randolph & Thompson Halls. Any rooms not claimed by Monday, March 31, 2026, will be turned over to New and Transfer students for Fall 2026/Spring 2027 housing.
  • A $100.00 cancellation fee will be charged anytime housing is canceled prior to August 1, 2026, returning student move-in is Sunday, August 16, 2026.

Wednesday, April 1, 2026
Housing Application opens for new UVA Wise Students

  • There is no fee to apply for Housing.
  • Housing assignments are made on the order of housing application date/time. The earlier students register, the better room selection they will have.
  • New students can select housing for McCraray & Still Halls, and any other available rooms not claimed by
  • upperclassmen at this time.
  • A $100.00 cancellation fee will be charged anytime housing is canceled prior to August 1, 2026, new student move in day is Friday, August 14, 2026. See the first-year residency requirement for all new students.

Saturday, May 9, 2026 
End of Semester Closing
All residence halls will close at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, for the semester. 

ALL HOUSING/RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES will be completely closed from Saturday, May 9, 2026 to Sunday, May 24, 2026 due to various construction projects, spraying of halls, disinfecting buildings, mattress and furniture replacement, building upgrades, room inventories, and other necessities.

Closing Procedures

Students must visit a Residence Life check-out table in the lobby of Culbertson, McCraray, Still, or Henson Hall. Check-out tables are available Monday, May 4, 2026 - Friday, May 8, 2026 from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Students must move out and depart from campus 24 hours after their last final exam. If a student is graduating or their final exam is on Friday, check-out tables will be available from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026. All students must be completely moved out and checked out of their dorm by 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026. There are no extended stay requests available. Failing to visit a check-out table will result in improper check-out fees, rekey charges, and any additional maintenance/housekeeping fees deemed necessary. 

Move out check-list:

  1. Clean your room
  2. Take out all trash to the outside dumpster
  3. Close blinds
  4. Turn off all lights
  5. Remove all belongings, ensure the room is returned to its original state, and that the room is completely empty.
  6. Close and lock doors.
  7. Visit a check-out table in the lobby of Still, Culbertson, McCraray, or Henson.

 

Summer Housing Information

Wednesday, April 22, 2026 
Housing Application opens for summer housing 
Summer Housing portal will be open Wednesday, April 22, 2026 - Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Summer Housing for Summer Session I will be in McCraray Hall. Summer Housing for Summer Session II will be in Still Hall. 

Sunday, May 24, 2026
Summer I move-in from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2026, check out on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Staying between summer sessions is not an option. All Summer I students move out. 

Saturday, June 27, 2026 - July 4, 2026
ALL RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES ARE COMPLETELY CLOSED 

Sunday, July 5, 2026 
Summer II move-in from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, check out on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Staying between summer sessions is not an option. All Summer II students move out. 

Saturday, August 8, 2026 - Friday, August 14, 2026
ALL RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES ARE COMPLETELY CLOSED

Need to Submit a Work Order?  Contact your RA and they can submit one on your behalf! The maintenance department processes work orders Monday-Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.

Orientation for new students

New students (freshmen, transfers & readmits) complete a 3-step Orientation process prior to enrolling at UVA Wise:

  1. Information modules (online, self-paced)
  2. Advising & Registration (zoom, by appointment)
  3. @ Wise Day (in-person for student & up to 2 guests)

Signup invitation emails are sent to the personal email of all confirmed students.  After signup, all information is sent ONLY to the UVA Wise email, so be sure to check if often and regularly.

Expedition for new freshmen (fall only)

All new UVA Wise freshmen (residential & commuter) will participate in Expedition on Sunday before classes begin each fall.  This students-only event provides a full-day of interaction and fun to give you additional timely information for a successful start to your first semester at UVA Wise.  You will participate as a team of fellow students led by an upperclass Expedition Leader (EL).

FY Fridays (fall only)

After the start of each fall semester, be sure to watch your UVA Wise email for more information about First-Year Fridays!  Held each Friday for the first six weeks of the fall semester, OSE will provide you with essential resources and giveaways right when you need them. 

While FY Fridays are specifically planned for freshmen, they are actually open to all UVA Wise students! 😀
