Description

This course will focus on contemporary multiethnic literatures of the United States, with a focus on how ethnic and racial identities are constructed in relation to both national identity and the modern nation-state as an institution. Through encounters with ta variety of literary genres (poetry, novels, essays, plays), we will examine the complexities and contradictions of group identity formation within the national context of the contemporary US and the histories that have shaped it.
